They DO open up on the bottom

I noticed some reviewers mentioned these bags don't expand at the bottom or stand independently… I can see why they thought so because the bottom does appear to be glued shut… but it isn't! You have to separate the bottom (I used my fingernail) and pull it apart manually. It isn't hard to do, just hard to recognize how it works upon first glance. The bags are high quality and the valves work. I recently ordered a small vacuum pump for it, but you can just squeeze as much air out as possible or maybe even use a household vacuum cleaner w/ hose attachment. I was also able to seal the top closed with my clothes iron using medium heat setting.
